Standalone (ST) presence detectors detect the movements that occur when an area is occupied. Personnel entering a controlled area automatically activate the lighting and subsequently sustain it by even the smallest movements they make as they go about their normal activity. When they leave, the lights automatically switch off, and will come on again only when the area is occupied once more. Most standalone detectors incorporate both an adjustable off delay and photocell which should be set to suit local conditions. The photocell may hold lights off or, when used with suitable ballasts, allow the luminaires to dim and brighten according to the level of natural light.
Electricity savings of between 40% and 50% may be expected from an investment in standalone presence detectors with photocells.Various standalone presence detection systems are available for all sizes and shapes of areas and switching requirements to provide building-wide lighting management. All ST detectors are remotely mounted.
